Some love stories begin with a grand gesture. Ours began with a random comment on Instagram and a 12-year-old contact saved in Ana’s phone as “FGG.”
On March 3rd, 2024, Fran left a casual reply on one of Ana’s stories. We had known each other as teenagers back in Buenos Aires — same school circles, same Argentine chaos — but life had taken us far apart. Fran was living in Calgary, working in the energy sector and chasing mountains. Ana had built her life in the Netherlands years earlier, embracing Dutch bikes, long summer nights, Pilates, and her beloved border collie Milu.
What started as light, nostalgic banter — coffee obsessions, ski photos, Birkenstocks-with-socks critiques, and gentle teasing about each other’s nerdy habits — quickly turned into daily 8-hour-time-difference conversations that neither of us wanted to end. We talked about everything: Fran’s endless collection of coffee brewers (Chemex still reigns supreme), Ana’s weekend festivals and bike rides, our shared love for dogs, family, and the feeling of being a little bit Argentine no matter where we lived.
Then Fran did what Fran does best: he made a wonderfully impulsive decision. One casual “what if I came to visit?” turned into a plane ticket to Amsterdam in May 2024. That trip changed everything. What had been pixels and voice notes became real — long walks, late-night talks, laughter that finally had the same accent, and the unmistakable feeling that this was something worth crossing oceans for.
The long-distance chapter that followed was equal parts challenging and beautiful. We navigated time zones, work stress, and family visits to Argentina while slowly, deliberately building something real. We became each other’s favourite good‑morning and good‑night, planned trips, shared playlists, supported one another through tough days, and — day by day — merged our two worlds. Calgary winters met Amsterdam summers; mate rituals blended with coffee corners; bike rides turned into mountain road trips. Eventually, distance gave way to the same country, and we found ourselves building a life together in the city that already felt like home.
And now, on October 31st, 2026, in Buenos Aires, we’ll stand together and make it official. Two Argentines who found their way back to each other across continents, time zones, forest fires, and one perfectly timed Instagram comment.
We can’t wait to celebrate with the people who have cheered us on from both sides of the ocean — and to keep writing the rest of the story together.
